Here at Gorgeous Presence I want to introduce you to the inspirational women who continue to help me on my own health and wellness journey. These are women who understand the pressures that professional, independent, modern day women face. The messages they share are practical and realistic, which is why I admire them! In the next instalment of our Gorgeous Guest series, I am so excited to introduce to you my beautiful friend, Peta Serras of Professional Babe. Her website name says it all!
Firstly, congratulations on the launch of your brand new website, Professional Babe!
I absolutely love your slogan, “…for the woman who wants to have it all. Beauty, life, health & career advice that helps you be a babe even when you have the stresses of being a professional.”
What inspired you to create Professional Babe in the first place?
Thanks so much Amanda! My newsfeed on social media was constantly flooded with images about having the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce and that exercise is only 1/24th of your day. I was like yeah well, I sleep for 8 hours and on average do 8 hours of classes, then you look at the time you spend driving, getting ready for work and eating and there isn’t much time left.
I was constantly wondering how can I manage to lose weight, eat healthy, excel in my career AND date, whilst maintaining a thriving professional career and my sanity at the same time.
I launched my brand 12 months ago but recently we had a rebrand and I love this new direction. It’s a resource I wish I had access to when I first started my business.
What is your number one tip for balancing work with looking and feeling like a babe?
I really believe we all need a schedule. Or something in writing at least! Sit down and work out what your priorities are at the moment. It could be paying off your credit card, losing weight, creating a product for your business or running a marathon.
I’m huge into using my planner and writing out a daily to-do list. I always list things I need to get done according to my priorities at the moment. So if I’m wanting to lose weight then I ensure to write down that I need to meal plan, grocery shop and exercise that day.
It seems simple but I find I get everything done that way and my life feels like it’s in order.
You are Pilates instructor as well! What do you enjoy most about the practice and why should we give it a try?
I love the fact there is so much to focus on. My clients always remark that they come to class stressed but when they need to focus on their body positioning, the exercise itself, the breathing and then the variations – they can’t even remember what they were stressed about in the first place!
I believe everyone should give Pilates a try because it has something for everyone. It could be that you have a niggling injury, struggling to lose the last 5kg or even have an aching back from your desk job. I find that whatever the goal, Pilates always delivers the results.
Aside from Pilates, what is your favourite way to exercise on a time budget?
Walking! There’s no excuse not to walk. You don’t need any fancy equipment and it can be as simple as walking to get your morning coffee. We should all be aiming for 10k steps a day and any incidental exercise adds up!
You have an eBook called How to look like a supermodel in your selfie, which I loved reading! What are some simple ways to take better selfies that you share in your eBook?
Thank you! I think the best tip I can offer would be in regards to lighting and camera positioning:
- Lighting – Even natural light is always best. Remember to face the light source. This could be a big bright window or even a light if that’s all you have access to. Even light helps to flood out any skin imperfections including fine lines and wrinkles.
- Camera positioning – Holding the camera in line or above your forehead and tilting it down produces the most flattering angle for your face. It causes you to lift your chin, which elongates your neck and minimizes the chances of getting a double chin!
Just like me, you have intolerances to gluten and dairy, but it doesn’t stop you from enjoying yummy desserts! What is your favourite gluten and dairy free recipe?
It’s so hard as often the best food contains gluten and dairy it seems! I still have them as sometimes foods but I think we are very lucky that there are so many people today who create delicious recipes with us in mind!
For special occasions I love making my raw chocolate and passionfruit tart. It has the consistently of a cheesecake but is cashew based and completely raw.
What is on the horizon for Peta Serras and Professional Babe?
I can tell 2016 is going to be a big year for the PB brand! I have lots in store to help my lovely ladies live a healthy, happy lifestyle whilst they maintain a thriving career. You’ll have to stay tuned to find out!
