10 ways to spark your spirituality

7 December 2014 By: Gorgeous Guest3 Comments

Gorgeous Guest Post By Kris Franken.

We’re all spiritual beings. Some of us express our spirituality, and some don’t.

Spirituality is a connection to something bigger. It’s knowing we’re not alone. I believe it’s the expression of our soul through this human existence. The beautiful thing about spirituality is that it doesn’t require belief in what other people tell you, or rituals or concrete faith or anything like a religion. Spirituality is the umbrella under which all religions and beliefs fall. You can make spirituality whatever you want it to be, there are no rules.

My spiritual journey has been slow, but incredibly meaningful. And I’ve only just started to completely open up about it. I’m excited to be sharing this post with you today, it feels like just the right time to look into what has brought out my spirituality the most.

Here’s how to discover your own spirituality and let it shine…

1.  Pause

Your spirituality can be anything you want it to be.

Your spirituality can be anything you want it to be.

Your very own spirituality can’t be found in a book or a blog, it’s only in the quiet of your soul that you’ll find it. Take time regularly to pause and be still. Press your hands together into a prayer-like position, and gently push your thumbs into the middle of your chest bone. This is a physical way of dropping from your head (where your ego is running the show) to your heart. Your heart is the gateway to your soul. Take a minute out of your day in this position with eyes closed as often as you need. It’s useful if you want to connect to Spirit, or just relax your mind.

2.  Ask

There are angels around you at all times, and if that wasn’t mind-blowing and magical enough, you have all the wisdom inside you that you’ll ever need. You have all the answers, absolutely everything you need. So when you need answers, ask yourself. Ask angels. Ask them their name. Ask them what you need to know, what you need to look for, where they want you to go. Trust that they have your highest, brightest interest at heart. Don’t tell them how to answer you, just ask and be open.

3.  Listen

Call it prayer, call it connection to the universe, conversations with Spirit/God, whatever you want, but it’s a two-way street. It’s not just about asking for things that you want, it’s about getting grateful and expressing this to Spirit. Say thank you as often as you feel it. It’s also about listening with all your senses. Sometimes you might hear a voice, clear as day, in your own voice in your head, but you know it’s not your thoughts. That’s Spirit. Listen to that voice. Make space in your day to listen hard. Meditate, have a bath, go for a walk, all with the intention of listening. You’ll be amazed at what you’ll hear.

4.  Watch

Signs are being shown to you all the time. So if you’re asking for something, the answer may be given to you in a number of ways. It may be a thought, a voice, a song, a chat with a friend, a blog, a magazine article, an email… it may be your intuition, goosebumps, or a knowing. Whatever it is, be mindful that the angels are trying to provide you with what you want to know. Guidance and love are abundant and all around.

5.  Act

When you’re given new information that provides you with the next step, take that step. Don’t hold yourself back. Don’t worry about what other people might think. Don’t think you’re not worth it. Don’t let this chance fall away. Take it with both hands, look up and say thank you! Once you’ve asked and received a blessed answer, it’s your responsibility to take action according to what you now know.

6.  Connect

Connect with the Spirits in your meditation space.

Connect with the Spirits in your meditation space.

Living an openly spiritual life may take some getting used to, but the more connected you are, the easier it is. Meditate, journal and talk to the angels as much as you want, they’re able to be with everyone at all times, so you’re not overstaying your welcome with them. Feel Spirit guiding you ~ whether it’s to call a friend, write a letter or blog post, take time out, start your own business, eat cleaner or even park your car on another level. There’s no such thing as mundane to angels, if it helps you with your day or your life, they’re on it. Your body is made of stars, your soul is pure light, your heart is your guide… feel that never-ending spiritual connection run through you all day every day.

7.  Read

Books and blogs can help boost your knowledge of the spirit world, of ways to connect and hurdles to overcome. Following other people’s journeys is a fantastic opportunity for support and growth, but remember you don’t have to do what others are doing, especially if it doesn’t feel aligned with your heart and soul. Use it for inspiration, not imitation.

8.  Adorn

There are so many ways to have beautiful spiritual reminders around your home, work and even on your body. For now, you might want none of it. Or you might want it all. You can try crystals, incense, candles, angel/tarot cards, singing bowls, meditation mats, music, books, dream catchers or prayer flags. Find something that’s meaningful to you, and don’t over-think it. You don’t have to know anything about crystals, just pick one that resonates with you at the time and carry it around to see how it makes you feel. (If you’re sensitive you might not want crystals in your bedroom or around your neck, they’re powerful energies!) Same goes for anything else you want to try. Just try it.

Oracle cards can help set strong intentions and guide the way.

9.  Find

Find your truth. It’s a dynamic truth, every evolving, but it’s yours. Act on your truth. If you find yourself mid-gossip, or raising your voice, or doing anything that feels off-centre, just stop. Stop and ask Spirit what to do next. You might feel completely lost because you’re so used to yelling when you’re upset or gossiping with the gals, or whatever it is, but there will come a time when you know you’re done. Let it go. Drop the habit. Follow the light.

10.  Inspire

You don’t have to be an expert, author or practitioner to bring out the life-giving light in others. Just be yourself. You might lose friends, you may find some friends are attracted to you because they want your new energy (they usually don’t know they’re using you for your energy), and you’ll make shiny, new friends. Protect yourself (keep away from energy suckers and listen to your body when you need to rest, drink water, etc), let your light shine, and find ways to share it with others. You have a gift and it’s up to only you to use it. It might be writing, singing, playing music, counseling, healing, or anything else you can think of. If you’re feeling the pull, follow your heart. No matter where you feel you’re at spiritually, you can always inspire someone else.

Thank you Amanda for featuring me on your beautiful blog, my wish is that anyone who stopped by to read this post will resonate with at least one little idea and take that away with them. Now I’m off to play with my crystals again, even though I still know nothing about them!

x Frankie

Great post Kris – I could relate to a lot of what you had to say about opening up and enjoying the process as it happens organically. Also, love your Tree of Life media pillow – I have the same one in pink 🙂

Hi Hayley, I’m so glad you liked the post!

I just read an article in Renegade Collective about Gabby Bernstein, where she says “I believe that being spiritual is being real and acting in ways that are truthful to you. It’s a daily practice of clearing and stripping back anything that’s blocking your path of love…”

I thought Kris’ tips were a perfect reflection of this take on spirituality, and so easy to incorporate into our daily lives.

Thanks again for being so supportive of Gorgeous Presence Hayley! It means so much.
