Dedicating my week to self-care

Waking up early to go for a walk with Cindy makes it all worth it!

I can’t believe that another weekend is over and we are edging closer to Christmas and the holidays.  It has been a hectic past two weeks of Christmas parties, indulgent food and a few extra glasses of wine than I would normally consume. Meanwhile I am still training at the gym and fitting in Bikram yoga almost every day. No wonder I’m feeling under the weather and my stomach has been troubling me! Recently I got stuck into reading High – A Party Girl’s Guide to Peace by the beautiful Tara Bliss. I must admit that I’ve never taken my partying and drinking to the extreme that Tara describes in her book, it has really got me thinking about how destructive our habits can become if we don’t question why we are making those choices.

I have only read a few chapters, but I’ve already laughed, cried and related with so many stories Tara has described. I’ve asked myself things like: ~ “Why do I feel the need to reward myself with that glass of wine during the week after a stressful day at work?” ~ “Why am I always saying yes to events when I would love nothing better than to chill at home?” What I have learnt is that these destructive decisions are the result of our Ego.  Whilst our loving Self would want us to focus on self-care and nourishing practices, our Ego is pushing us to do things that make us fit in with the crowd, feel more confident and trick us into believing that we are getting what we want out of life. It is time to put our Egos to the side! For me, this week is all about caring for myself with love and compassion.  I’m going to focus on the following: ~ Going to bed as early as possible ~ Meditation in some form every day (I love Melissa Ambrosini’s guided meditations) ~ Moving every day in ways that make me feel good, whether it be gym, yoga or walking by the beach ~ Eating nutrient dense meals and making my green smoothies for lunch ~ No sneaky glasses of wine after work and more green and peppermint tea!!

I am making this declaration of self-care public so that I am accountable!  I would encourage you all to do the same. If you haven’t come across Tara’s website before, I would highly recommend you take a look.  I can’t wait to share more of her book as I move through it. I would love to hear from you about what self-care activities you will be incorporating into your week!

I came across your post and had to say – yes! I’ve been writing about self-care a lot recently, because I think so many of us neglect it. I hope you managed to keep your self-care going through that difficult christmas period, and I wish you a 2015 where you are truly kind to yourself! Ellen x
